Be Prepared!

That's not just a good motto for Scouts and kids - it's a good motto for everyone.  Especially when it comes to managing your money.  We live in a world full of financial opportunities as well as financial hazards. 

The FDIC consumer news has put together a series of articles that will help you "Be Prepared" with whatever financial opportunities or hazards you face.

1)  Make sure you rare Financially Fit!  You know it's important to get a regular physical exam.  You take your vehicle in for oil changes and tune-ups.  Your finances are no different.  You can start with a simple "self examination".

2)  Protect against bad deals and scams that arrive by phone, letter and the Internet.  Marketers have countless ways to find out who you are, where you live and where you are likely to spend your money.  Unsolicited offers are one of the biggest ways that folks are lured into bad deals.

3)  Avoid costly scams involving fake checks and money orders.  This is one of the fastest growing methods of scamming folks out of money.  Explosive growth in counterfeit personal and business checks, money orders and more.  Beware of Internet transactions with strangers.

4)  Protect all your deposits with FDIC Insurance.  While bank failures have been rare in recent years, it can and still does happen.  Make sure you get every penny of your money by banking at an FDIC insured institution.

5)  Complain effectively and get results!  You can minimize frustrations when there are questions about your account if you can communicate effectively with your bank representative.
